All About Goldens in Golden
During Goldens in Golden, leashed Golden Retrievers (and their respective humans) converge for a day celebrating all things Golden! Washington Avenue, the heart of Golden, will be closed to traffic, creating a festive environment for attendees to enjoy activities, explore the pet vendor village, and capture memorable moments in Parfet Park. The weekend features all kinds of fun throughout town, including a possible After Party at Golden Mill. Don’t miss the chance to have you and your pooch featured in the official group photo beneath Golden’s Welcome Arch!

As a city, Golden ensures a tail-wagging good time, known for our pet-friendly lodging and amazing hiking trails to keep you and your canine cutie entertained. Goldens in Golden began as a casual gathering of Golden Retriever enthusiasts (back in 2019) and has since grown into a major event that attracts hundreds of Goldens and their humans from across Colorado (and the greater United States!). This annual event honors the Golden Retriever breed, promoting responsible pet ownership and community involvement. Goldens in Golden is “heaven on Earth” for Golden Retrievers and their owners, and you can expect a welcoming atmosphere and a sense of camaraderie among Golden lovers.
Goldens in Golden Activities: What to Expect?
Ready for a weekend of bone-a-fide fun?
- Washington Avenue is Golden Avenue: Witness the adorable parade of Goldens strutting their stuff on Golden’s main street; enjoy paw-some activities, a pet vendor village, and plenty of refreshments, including pup cups for the dogs!
- Vendor Booths: Explore booths featuring pet-related products, services, and local artisans showcasing unique goods for dog lovers. This year, Goldens in Golden merch will be available online and in person at the event.
- Specialty Brews: Enjoy Goldens in Golden beer specials throughout town.
- Photo Opportunities: Golden’s Welcome Arch is the perfect backdrop for selfies with your pup. There will also be many opportunities to take official group photos under the arch!
- Opening and After Parties: It’s a paw-ty time for our furry friends all weekend! Mingle with fellow dog lovers at Golden Mill’s various themed festivities and specials around town. Grab a specialty dog treat at Kona Bowls. Stay tuned for more information as the date approaches!
What to Bring?
To make the most of your day at Goldens in Golden, be sure to pack the following essentials:
- Dog Manners: Only trained and leashed dogs are invited to the event. A leash and tag are essential for keeping your Golden close during the festivities.
- Leashes are Key: For everyone’s safety, please keep dogs on a leash unless in a designated off-leash area. For leash-free fun, visit Golden’s off-leash dog parks at Tony Grampsas Memorial Sports Complex & Trail or Ulysses Sports Complex!
- Dog Waste Bags: Help maintain Golden’s cleanliness by bringing waste bags for easy clean-up.
- Water and Bowls: Although there will be hydration stations, keep your dog hydrated throughout the day with plenty of water and a portable bowl.
- Sturdy Shoes for the Humans: The event takes place in February in Colorado – there might be snowy spots. Shoes with good traction are essential.
