Clear Creek Canyon Park

Clear Creek Canyon, nestled in the heart of Colorado, is a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Just a short drive from Denver, this breathtaking canyon offers a plethora of exciting activities and stunning sights for visitors to enjoy. From beautiful paved trails to views of gigantic rocky cliffs and the fast-moving river, Clear Creek Canyon offers outdoor activities for everyone.

Whitewater Rafting

The Canyon is renowned for its exhilarating Clear Creek rafting opportunities. There are a variety of rapids suitable for both beginners and experienced rafters. Local outfitters provide guided tours mid-May through the 2nd or 3rd week in August, allowing you to navigate the rapids while soaking in the scenery.

Rock Climbing

With its rugged cliffs and impressive granite walls, Clear Creek Canyon is a rock climber's paradise. The canyon boasts a wide range of climbing routes suitable for all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned climber or a novice looking to try your hand at this exhilarating sport, Clear Creek Canyon offers plenty of options. If you're new to the sport, we recommend hiring a climbing guide to show you the ropes. Be sure to check for route closures ahead of time. Often times portions of Clear Creek Canyon Park (including rock climbing sites) are closed to all public use uphill of US Hwy. 6 from Feb - July to protect raptor nesting territory. Check the Jeffco Open Space website for closures. 

Hiking and Trail Running

Lace up your boots and hit the Clear Creek Canyon trails. These trails cater to all levels of fitness and showcase the area's natural beauty. From the easy and scenic Peaks to Plains trail along Clear Creek to more challenging paths like the Huntsman Gulch Trail, there's a hike for every preference.

E-Biking and Cycling

Peaks to Plains Trail

Through a partnership with Clear Creak County Open Space, the first segment of the Peaks to Plains trail in Clear Creek Canyon opened in summer 2016. This 3-mile segment of trail, two miles in Jefferson County and one in Clear Creek County, is a 10-foot-wide, stained concrete surface, with 500 feet in elevation gain, six new or improved river access points, the Mayhem…

Fishing

Cast your line into the crystal-clear waters of Clear Creek and enjoy a day of fishing. The section of Clear Creek from Vanover Park through Grant Terry Park is known as the “Golden Mile” for its first class trout habitat, making it a favorite spot for anglers. Whether you prefer fly fishing or traditional rod and reel, the tranquil setting and abundance of fish will make for an unforgettable fishing experience. There are four main parking areas located in Clear Creek Canyon near Golden. Plan to park in at one of the following locations: Gateway Trailhead (21100 US Hwy 6), Tunnel 1 Trailhead (22122 US Hwy 6), Big Easy Trailhead (32088 US Hwy 6), Mayhem Gulch Trailhead (32447 US Hwy 6).
